Welcome to Scarborough Model Middle School!  We hope that the information on this website will help you become acquainted with the rules, policies and procedures of our school.  It is everyone's responsibility to make this school a safe and orderly environment where all students can develop to their potential. Please acquaint yourself with our procedures and do your part to make this school the best that it can be. Comer Lee Scarborough opened in September, 1968. It was the first middle school in Mobile. It was named for Dr. Comer Lee Scarborough. He was an assistant superintendent in the Mobile County Public School System. The transformation to Scarborough Model Middle School took place in 2016.

Scarborough Model Middle School is an educational community that fosters peer collaboration and promotes student ownership of learning.


The mission of Scarborough Model Middle School is to provide a rigorous, relevant, and engaging learning experience that prepares students to thrive and empowers them to be life-long learners.



Extra-curricular Activities


Extracurricular activities are essential to the student's involvement in and positive attitude toward Scarborough Middle School. A variety of clubs will be offered to students. Some will be of their choice.  A few clubs will have academic standards or other standards that must be met to be a member.  Every student is encouraged to become involved in school clubs and organizations.  The following are the organizations offered at SMS:

National Junior Honor Society

To become a member of the NJHS, a student must have a 3.5 cumulative average, demonstrate appropriate behavior.


Competitive athletics will be offered to grades 7 and 8.  The following sports will be offered:

Baseball - Boys only

Basketball - Girls and Boys     

Cheerleading - Girls Only*                      

Football - Boys Only                 

Track - Girls and Boys

Volleyball - Girls only

Students are reminded that to participate in any sport, a student must maintain a 70% average in 5 classes and meet all eligibility requirements of the Alabama High School Athletic Association.  

* - Girls interested in cheerleading must have passing grades in every class and satisfactory behavior as deemed by the cheer coach. Please click on 'Sports' to your left and then 'Cheerleading' for more details.
