A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL...

Welcome to Scarborough Middle School!  We hope that the information in this handbook will help you become acquainted with the rules, policies and procedures of our school.  It is everyone's responsibility to make this school a safe and orderly environment where all students can develop to their potential.  Please acquaint yourself with our procedures and do your part to make this school the best school that it can be. SOME FACTS ABOUT SCARBOROUGH ...

•·Our school opened in September, 1968.  It was the first middle school in Mobile.

•·It is named for Dr. C. L. Scarborough, whose portrait is in the front foyer.  He was an assistant superintendent in the Mobile County Public School System.

•·The address is 1800 Phillips Lane, Mobile, AL 36618.

•·The phone number is 221-2323.

•·Our colors are kelly green and light gold.

•·Our mascot, the Wildcats, was chosen by students during that first year.

SOME PEOPLE YOU SHOULD KNOW...

•·        Our principal is Mr. Charles Smith

•·        Ms. Francine Craig and Mr. Patrick Armstrong are our assistant principals.

•·        Our guidance counselor is Karen Williams.

•·        Ms. Robin Raulerson is our Title I Intervention Teacher.

•·        Ms. Linda Ruffin is our Title I Instructional Specialist.

•·        Ms. Shemega Nettles is our receptionist and registrar.

•·        Our bookkeeper is Ms. Jackie Cruthirds.

Extra-curricular Activities

SCARBOROUGH'S EXTRACURRICULAR CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS ...

Extracurricular activities are essential to the student's involvement in and positive attitude toward Scarborough Middle School. A variety of clubs will be offered to students. Some will be of their choice.  A few clubs will have academic standards or other standards that must be met to be a member.  Every student is encouraged to become involved in school clubs and organizations.  The following are the organizations offered at SMS:

National Junior Honor Society

To become a member of the NJHS, a student must have a 3.5 cumulative average, demonstrate appropriate behavior.

SPORTS

Competitive athletics will be offered to grades 7 and 8.  The following sports will be offered:

Basketball - Girls and Boys     

Cheerleading - Girls Only                      

Football - Boys Only                 

Track - Girls and Boys

Students are reminded that to participate in any sport, a student must maintain a 70% average in 5 classes and meet all eligibility requirements of the Alabama High School Athletic Association.
